I have been uploading guitar videos to YouTube since about 2010, and to me it's a nice place to keep an archive of my playing. It's not what it used to be, but it's always nice to revisit the old videos.

Guns N’ Roses - It’s Alright | Piano Cover by Dipen

2022-05-22

Okay, So this is going to be a first for me, doing a piano cover. I have always been mesmerised by this song, and funnily enough, I started learning this back in 2018. Found some time here right now, and was able to finally record my progress. So, it was back in the august of 2018 that this song takes me back to.. recently been feeling like that again. And I’ll say it: piano seems to be way harder to master than any stringed instrument really. I always had a lot of respect for pianists, but now it’s just skyrocketed! Shoutout to Penn state for having pianos around for us to play. Till the next one, - Dipen

John Mayer - In Your Atmosphere | Acoustic Guitar Cover by Dipen

2022-04-03

So, Where to start with this one... yes, I have been on a Mayer phase for quite some time now, and this (esp the last part) is one of my favourites. And the cherry on top is that this is my new acoustic guitar! It's a 2015 Martin X Series Dreadnought, which I got just about a week ago here in PA. It sounds phenomenal, and it's been a LONG time since I owned an acoustic (2015, that was). This video was recorded in the EAB building at Penn State Harrisburg (it was a sunday, that's why there aren't much people around) Anyway, I have a long year ahead. Should be able to post some stuff in between. - Dipen ============================================================ Gear Used: Guitar: 2015 Martin X Series Dreadnought Recorded on an iPhone 12

John Mayer - Shouldn't matter but it does | Guitar cover by Dipen

2022-03-05

Hey, So, another Mayer cover. I wanted to go a bit simple this time, and 'feel/play' out "Shouldn't matter but it does". Dunno why, but it resonates with me. And I think I really should invest in an acoustic now. Gear Used: Guitar: Taylor Academy 10e Mics: Rode NT5s Recorded on iPhone 13 Pro, edited on Premier Pro Thanks Rishi for helping out!

John Mayer - Edge of Desire | Guitar Cover by Dipen

2022-01-25

Hello, So, another Mayer cover which I’d been jamming to for quite sometime now. I wanted to do this with a guitar with humbuckers (ofc), but all I have here is my tele. So, decided to experiment with that (and a lot of wah) Ofcourse, this is not perfect, but I know if I don’t push myself to do it now, there’s only a slim chance it will be done later. (This is actually a take from the second time I tried to record it. The first time did not go so well, and I had to do it all over again) ============================================================================== Gear used: Guitar: 2019 Fender Player Series Tele Amp: Orange Crush 20 RT Processor: Line6 POD HD500X Recorded on iPhone 12

“Let Your Heart Hold Fast” | Guitar Cover by Dipen

2021-10-01

Okay, so this song has been on my to-do list for quite a few years now.. it’s probably my favourite song from “How I Met Your Mother”, and just never fails to give the feels. For the song itself, I pretty much just played the rhythms, and well, too much lead stuff would have not turned out that great (plus, I am really short-pressed for time as well :/) Anyway, for like the past 3-4 videos or so, I had mentioned that a big change was about to come, and well, I am in the midst of it. Won’t be able to upload that frequently, and I am back on my “couple-of-videos-a-year” pace now. Hope you stay well, Dipen ============================================================ Gear Used: Guitar: Fender Player Series Tele Amp: Orange Crush 20RT Processor: Line 6 PODHD500X (should’ve worked more on the tone on this one, but well, it was now or never for this song)

John Mayer - Queen of California | Bass Cover by Dipen

Alright, so this is kinda a first for YouTube. I’d actually recorded this video about a year ago (for a collab that did not end up happening), and well, it’s just been sitting there. Guess I wanted just one more video with these (as now, they both are justifiably retired) So yeah, this is actually an old video, recorded ~June ’20. Ofc, things aren’t perfect, but the joy definitely is. I know I have been saying for like the last 10 videos that things are about to change, but this time, it is for real. I will be in a very different place, both physically and otherwise when the next video goes up. I don’t say this quite often, but I think the overarching theme I have with my channel is “shameless consistency”. Albeit, there could be like 2 videos a year, and sometimes, that much in a month, for me, all that matters is that I am continuing with this thing that I have been fostering for oh-so-many-years now. It takes effort to keep yourself motivated, but heck, the joy is worth all that in the end. Lately, I have been saying, and thinking about this quite a bit: “words mean nothing to fleeting youth” (it’s from “it’s only smiles” by Periphery), and damn if that isn’t true.. more in the sense that actual actions are more impactful than promising words.. Anyways, we ~slightly~ digress from the actual description (I blame the wine lol). Chances are that if you made this far, we’re probably still in touch. Hit me up! Greetings from India, Dipen ============================================================== Gear Used: Bass: Squier Affinity Jazz Bass (5 string) Guitar: Ibane SA220FM Processor: Line6 POD HD500X The guitar and the bass are both retired now.. Periphery - The Bad Thing | Guitar cover by Dipen

2021-08-04

Hey, So, venturing into some Periphery here, and man, was it a challenge to do.. for the first time in quite a while my hands were aching after playing. Upping guitar game is def hard :P Anyway, this is also a landmark video for my Les Paul, as after this week it’ll be a long time till I will be seeing it again. Also, this is the best axe I have that can chug, albeit with 10s, in drop A. As always, this is by no means perfect, but I had a blast doing this! Greetings from India, Dipen :D ======================================================= Gear Used: Guitar: Epiphone Les Paul Standard Goldtop Amp: Blackstar ID Core 20 Recorded and put together on an iPhone 12 (damn, this thing is powerful)

Muse - “Knights of Cydonia” | Guitar cover by Dipen

2021-07-20

Okay, So this is probably the most “out there” and “weird” song that I have ever covered (tonally speaking). I have been jamming to this tune since (what, it must’ve been 2010) while playing guitar hero 3. It was fun recreating and experimenting on the tones via the POD, and I finally got to use the weird effects and fuzz. Ofc the cover isn’t perfect, but aren’t we all? :P Anyways, hope you like it! Led Zeppelin - Going to California | Acoustic Guitar Cover by Dipen

2021-07-01

Hey, So, this song means a lot to me and got me through some.. times back in the day. Always wanted to cover this for its sheer melancholy, so after 8 years, here I am. Yes, it's not perfect ofc, but it was a really good exercise in fingerstyle, especially combining the guitar and mandolin bits. Also, this was recorded at a villa in Lonavala with my College Gang (you can actually even see/hear them in this clip :P) So yeah, after years and years of wanting to do this, it feels apt now. Greeings from India, Dipen =========================================================== Gear Used: Guitar: Yamaha FS800 ~Yep, that's it for this :P

“Mr. Blue” | Slide Guitar Cover by Dipen

2021-06-22

Hey, Continuing on the Bojack theme, here is perhaps the most recognizable song of the series. Initially, I thought of trying this on the uke and acoustic, but then the slide just seemed to feel.. right, y’know. So yeah, please keep in mind that this is the first time I am seriously trying out the slide, (and I’d got this waayyy back in like 2010-2012). So yeah, forgive the mistakes. Also, been a while since I recorded on the Les Paul. Take Me Down Easy | Acoustic Guitar Cover by Dipen

2021-05-26

Okay, So this one is quite a mellow, quite a special song for me. Actually discovered it in the Bojack playlist, and dunno why, but I have been quite drawn to it. It’s just my simple cover of it (and an impromptu solo :P) Also, this is the last YouTube video from Bangalore. Things are about to change, and well, I’m glad to have YouTube as a constant to ride through these waves. Stay safe! - Dipen :) ======================================================== Gear used: Guitar - Yamaha FS-800 (not mine sadly :P) Recorded on iPhone 12 PS: I had a cover of Hotel Cali that I was really proud of, but unfortunately, it got blocked on youtube.. anyway, wanted to get something acoustic out, so this is it

John Mayer - Slow Dancing in a Burning Room | Guitar Cover by Dipen

2021-04-30

Hey, So, this is another entry in my “Hendrix/Mayer/SRV” style of playing, and most of this has been possible largely due to Jamie Harrison’s lessons. For this particular song, I did change the feel of it a bit, as I just wanted to play all of it live. (And forgive the left-panned audio, it was in the same vein xD) But yeah, it has been doing stuff like this that has helped me get my mind off of all the crazy things that are happening in 2021. It’s quite likely that this can be my last YouTube video in Bangalore.. my time here has come to an end. Big changes are coming.. Anyway, wherever you are, stay safe and take care! - Dipen =================================================== Gear Used: Guitar: Fender Player Series Telecaster Processor: Line 6 PODH500X Amp: Blackstar ID Core 20 Recorded and slightly edited on the iPhone 12 PS: Thanks Zaid, for the help in the recording!

Blackstratblues - Tiny Bit of Sky | Guitar cover by Dipen

2021-01-28

Okay, so this one is kinda special to me, in the sense that (apart from being a stellar piece of music), this got me trying to figure stuff out by ear again, and it’s been quite an experience over the month. Ofcourse, it’s not perfect by any means, but I did get to learn quite a few tricks with this. When I was starting out with this project, I was told this was like doing “guitar karaoke”… that term really stuck with me, and got me thinking.. and well, in the end, I like to think of this more in terms of a “study”, rather than just trying to imitate stuff.. anyway, I’m still figuring it out as I’m going.. Anyway, hope you like it! Cheers, Dipen :D ==================================================== Gear Used: Guitar: Fender Player Series Telecaster Amp: Marshall MG15 Proc: Line6 PODHD500X

John Mayer - Gravity (from where the light is) | Guitar Cover by Dipen

2020-12-16

So, 2020 huh.. This year was something that no one of us could have imagined. For me personally, this song is a nice "stabiliser" when things are 'working against me'. In terms of the actual playing.. this is definitely the longest one-take I have ever done and another song in the Hendrix/Mayer style of playing. Massive credits to Jamie Harrison for his lessons on these. Please forgive the hiccups here and there.. I hope that the 'feel' comes through, which is what I am after. It'd be better with vocals, but I don't have that much talent unfortunately :P On a personal note, this year was quite a ride for me, and I wanted to close it with this, just to 'stabilise' all that I went through (almost exactly a year ago from the 'Dil Mere' video. Anyway.. here's to hoping for a better 2021. Have another era-defining year for me up ahead. Jimi Hendrix/John Mayer - "Bold as Love" | Guitar Cover by Dipen

2020-09-20

Hey, So, lately, I’d been obsessed with John Mayer/Jimi Hendrix’s style of playing, and this song is my entryway into it. Not easy, but it definitely takes your playing to a whole new level. Also, this is my first proper video with my new Tele, (sadly had to get the previous one changed, and it’s this now).. the sound is mostly from this and the amp, with a bit of reverb from the processor. As always, constructive criticism is appreciated. Massive thanks to Arjun for lending his amazing vocals for this track.. it really takes it to the next level. You can check his channel here: https://www.youtube.com/user/arjunbalgovind Hope you are all keeping well in these difficult times, and may your love be bold enough to see you through it. Stay safe :) Greetings from India, Dipen :D ====================================================== Gear Used: Guitar: Fender Player Series Telecaster Amp: Marshall MG15 Processor: Line 6 PODHD500X

Bluesy/Jazzy Jam by Dipen and Madhur

2020-05-30

Hey, Hope you are safe and doing alright. This time, it's a jam I wrote and recorded with my good friend Madhur (awesome bassist btw, which is quite evident here). It was born out of this Maj7 groove I had in mind, and then we built from there. This is one of the few videos where I actually took production seriously, and had panned guitars and everything xD, it was a fun experience. Ofcourse, forgive the little hiccups here and there.. and yeah, we should have kept more distance between us and the camera :P Anyway, hope you like it. Adam Levine - Lost Stars | Bass Cover by Dipen

Hey, So, another video that I meant to do for a long time, and finally found the time to do. There's just something magical about this song, and it just remains as fresh and exciting as the first time I heard it. Played this one a few times on stage back in college, good times yeah. So, as always, it's not quite perfect, could've been a bit smoother in places, but hey, that's life. Constructive criticism is always appreciated. Can't believe it's been more than 4 years of me picking up the bass. Love it really. Enjoy, and stay safe! - Dipen :D =================================================== Gear used: Bass: Fender Squier Affinity Jazz V (with an awesome hand-drawn pickguard design!) Hey, So, wanted to cover some proper metal, and this definitely is it. Been practising this on-off for a few months, and well, finally got in the mood to record it. Forgive the mistakes, cause there are plenty. This song was quite challenging, and getting it right and tight was quite a challenge. The song in itself is quite melodious and wonderfully written. Greetings from India, Dipen :D Enjoy, and stay safe! ==================================================== Gear used: Guitar: Ibanez SA200FM Processor: Line6 PODHD500X Camera: iPhone 8 Plus front cam DAW: Garageband Slightly edited on iMovie

Parikrama - But it Rained | Guitar Cover by Dipen

2020-04-04

Hey, So, this is a song I’d been meaning to do for quite a few years now. I remember it as being one of the first-ever songs I learnt and played with others in school (back in ~2009-2010) Right now, these are unprecedented times that we are facing, and I thought it’d be nice to reminisce of relatively simpler times. Also, it’s a tribute to one of the oldest rock bands in India. It’s such a beautiful song, that I just had to cover it. Forgive the hiccups here and there. As always constructive criticism is appreciated. Stay safe, Dipen =========================================================== Gear Used: Guitar: Ibanez SA200FM (10 years old, daaamn) Processor: Line 6 PODHD500X Camera: iPhone 8+ front cam Recorded on Garageband, Edited in iMovie

Okay, so a little something about the song first. I've loved this song since the first time my friends told about it to me (we even played this at the NCC gig back in 2012, nice times) so yeah, wanted to make a cover of this song since then. Finally ended up doing it. And major news, so you see, I actually had the yellow tele replaced cause it has major truss rod issues, and was buzzing all the time. Got the replacement finally, and as you can see, it's a different colour :P Anyway, hope you like the video. The Local Train - Dil Mere Guitar Cover + Looper Improvisation

2019-12-25

Hey, First off, season’s greetings! I wanted to close this year (and by extension, the decade) by doing a song that I could be really creative with. I know I have covered TLT before, but this one is all done via the POD’s Looper. Forgive the little hiccups here and there, and let me know what you thought of the piece (plus, I finally got to use the capo I bought like 5 years ago xD) For the song itself, I really relate to it, and it’s one of my favourites to see the band perform live. And for those of you who haven’t heard this song, well, think of this as an improv video :P Quite a decade it’s been for me. Here’s to another one! Greetings from India, Dipen :D ====================================================== Gear Used: Guitar: Fender Player Series Telecaster Amp: Blackstar ID Core 20 Processor: Line 6 PODHD500X Capo: D’Addario Capo PS: Thanks Zaid, for helping me record the video!

Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight (Live) Guitar Cover by Dipen

2019-11-24

Hey, Well, this is my 50th video! Been posting since about 10 years, and well, it’s nice to look back. So yeah, for this one, I decided to go with Clapton’s “Wonderful Tonight”. This imo, is the perfect song to slow dance to, and well, I didn’t really improv or do anything extra here. Hopefully, the tone does justice to this (damn it’s difficult in dialling in the right thing, but I’m learning) And yeah, I got me a Tele, I just fell in love with it over the past year, and well, decided to take the leap. It's an incredible guitar! Anyway, hope you enjoy the video. Cheers, - Dipen :D =============================================== Gear Used: Guitar: Fender Player Series Telecaster Processor: Line 6 PODHD500X Camera: iPhone 8 Plus Recoded on Garageband, slightly edited on iMovie

Guitar Improvisation in Bm - Myra

Hey, So I’m back with another video. It’s something which I’d been noodling on for a little bit now. The backing track is from this video “https://youtu.be/QLiLE_u_7QY” As always, constructive criticism is appreciated. Fun fact: 2 mins before the first take, the high e snapped. That’s why there’s the single hanging string there xD I haven’t really talked about this, but I like to keep the mistakes that I make during recording, which is amateur throughout. It makes me feel.. human, and I think that’s relatable, like the good old 2010 YouTube era :P Greetings from India, - Dipen :D (PS: thanks Zaid, for helping out with the recording setup!) Eric Johnson - Manhattan guitar cover by Dipen

2019-06-30

Hey, This video is quite special for me. It’s been more than 6 years since I decided I wanted to cover this song, and sem after sem in my engineering, I barely found the time to work on it. Manhattan (the live version) for me is the greatest instrumental song recorded, and I just had to learn and tribute it. This is by far and wide the toughest piece I have ever attempted to cover, and obviously, it is not perfect, and barely a rendition by any and all means, but it marks a major milestone in my guitar-playing journey, and broadly, even my life. It’s been ages, and I still prefer to do one-take recordings, and keep all the mistakes. It makes me feel human, and also really, really, really appreciate the art and the artists. This was recorded at a family getaway in Panchgani, where I decided to take my gear, and ultimately shot the video. Forgive the inconsistent tones, I’m still finding my way on the POD (using it really makes you appreciate all the tech we have today) Like I said, this video marks an important epoch in my life, and I know it’ll be quite fun to look back upon it much later. Hope you like it! The Dead Daisies - Something I Said Solo Cover

Well, this is another one of those songs which I just had to cover the moment I heard it the first time. Figured this out by ear, so forgive the little inconsistencies. Had fun doing this one. It's been years since I did these many videos not-so-far-apart from each other. It's tedious, but I know it'll never get done if I keep on chasing perfection :P Greetings from India, - Dipen :D Gear used : Guitar - Epiphone Les Paul Standard Goldtop Processor - Line 6 POD HD500X Recorded on Garageband Edited on iMovie

Periphery - It's Only Smiles verse cover

2019-05-28

Alright, so it's been a few months since the last one, and this time I decided to *try* to cover my favourite song from P4. Man, even after learning this small bit, I appreciate Periphery's sooo much more. This is by no means a perfect cover, and I know there are tonnes of mistakes. I had been practising this for a few weeks and this is the best out of many, many takes :P also, I wanted to test out my POD, which I literally got 2 days ago. This nearly marks a decade of me playing the guitar, so yeah, I got out the one which I started on here. Blues Improvisation - Shield Music | Symphony 2019

Okay, First off, the sound came out better than I expected :P, and as it turns out, it's one of the very few times I actually played my Goldtop live, so yeah, it's going up here xD So this was a blues improvisation done for a competition (came 2nd btw). Not the cleanest, but we had fun playing it. Enjoy! Players : Guitar - Me (Dipen Gupta) Keys - Tapas Bass - Hrishi Drums - Akash Thanks, Mihir for recording this!!

So, where do I start.. GVF is a seriously awesome band, and this is my amateur, humble tribute to them. The Local Train - Vaaqif | Guitar Cover by Dipen

2018-06-01

Hey, Here's my interpretation of the song Vaaqif by The Local Train. Kinda wanted to cover this song after "Mizaaj". This is by no means perfect, but it's the best out of like 30 takes :P (Les Paul's G String is a real pita) And it was sooo hot. You can actually see all the sweat here xD Anyway, the audio is solely from the Handycam, and this was all one take, which is sorta my style here. Constructive criticism is appreciated. Enjoy, - Dipen :D Gear used : Guitar - Epiphone Les Paul Standard Amp - Blackstar ID Core 20 Processor - Digitech RP 225 Camera - Sony Handycam Cable - Fender California Series Pick - Jazz III Edited on iMovie

The Local Train - Mizaaj Guitar Cover by Dipen

Well, I decided to go oldschool for this one. It's a single take with the audio solely from the Handycam :P Well, about the song, Mizaaj is perhaps my favourite track form their new album "Vaaqif" (brilliant album btw..) Anyway, forgive me for not doing the clean parts properly.. I had no way to switch between channels, the proc's broken :( TLT, in my view is amongst the top Indian bands rocking the musical landscape with their amazing songs, and I have been fortunate enough to see them live a couple of times, each show being better than the last. So, this is my small tribute to the band, it is in no way perfect, but I had fun making the video :P Hope you like it. Well, this is one of those "impulse" videos, where I find myself with some time to spare, and record a video. It's not perfect by any means, but I wanted to get it out there. (There are many, many more videos which I could've made, but didn't cause I hadn't nailed them to my satisfaction, and later, the will to record just passes away.) I was trying to cover bass playing areas which I like, and so far, I've done slap, fingered, and reggae. This is the picked one. Had fun learning this. (arms ached a lot tho) Anyway, hope you like this. YouTube is not what it used to be, but hey, times change. No Woman No Cry Bass Loop Improvisation

2017-10-16

Hey there! It's almost been a whole year since I picked up the Bass, and I've loved it. This video is my take on the brilliant improvisation done by Simon Fitzpatrick in this video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYYLZFh8kA0 It's the first time I experimented with a 3-camera setup, (which took me like an hour to set up xD), and well, for a one-man job, I think the overall video came out quite alright. I know there are a lot of hiccups here and there, but I decided to keep it as I don't have the time (and energy) to do it all again :P Anyway, I hope you like it. Do share and subscribe. Drum Bass Jugalbandi

2017-09-06

*** PLEASE WEAR HEADPHONES TO HEAR THE BASS *** Hey, So this is a small piece me and my college band's drummer Akash, came up with. The title can roughly be translated as a Drums vs Bass showdown :P This was shot in our college basement (thanks Jay for shooting it!) in one take, and the audio is straight from the phone. Yes, level of the bass is a bit less, but it was an impromptu practice, and drums reign superior! xD Anyway, do let me know what you think, and share it of you like it. Greetings from India, - Dipen :D

MAGIC! - Rude Bass cover by Dipen

Hey! I waned to cover something sort-of-reggae like this for quite a while. It was one of the reasons I picked up the bass. Love the simple-yet-fun bassline. It's the first time I used a processor with the bass.. just experimenting with the tones. And as you can see, I customized the scratchplate! Love the new look. Anyway, subscribe if you like it, and constructive criticism is always appreciated. Bob Marley - Three Little Birds, Bass Guitar Cover by Dipen

2016-12-24

***IMPORTANT*** This may NOT playback on mobile devices due to YouTube's Copyright Issues. Please watch this on a Desktop/Laptop. Sorry for the inconvenience. Hey! Here's another bass cover. This time, it's Bob Marley's Three Little Birds. This song also got me into listening to reggae, which is one of the reasons I picked up the bass.. plus, it also helped me sail through a lot of stuff.. so here's a small tribute to that. And as far as recording goes, I did it at night using two cameras, so there might be a difference in image quality, but it's my first time using multiple cameras.. and it's quite tricky setting up/recording alone :P Anyway, let me know what you think about this cover. This time, it's Bob Marley's Three Little Birds. This song also got me into listening to reggae, which is one of the reasons I picked up the bass.. plus, it also helped me sail through a lot of stuff.. so here's a small tribute to that. RHCP - Dark Necessities Bass Cover by Dipen

2016-10-26

*** Please put on headphones to hear the bass properly*** Hey, after months and months of slapping on the guitar, and noodling some basslines, I got a bass guitar about 10 days ago. Still adjusting, but enjoying it (and my no means not playing the guitar) RHCP is kinda the main reason I picked up the bass... so this is kind of a tribute to them. Please forgive the mistakes and hiccups here and there, still working my way through it. Do share and subscribe if you like my work. This is my first video which is not a proper one-take. And editing it took me a solid two hours. The audio was recorded and later mixed with the track. Anyway, I'm pleased with the final result, and I hope you like it :D Greetings from India, - Dipen R Gupta Gear Used : Bass : Squier Jazz V Amp : Marshall MG30DFX (yeah, need to get a proper bass amp :P) Camera/Mic/Edited on : iPhone SE (love it xD)

Although many of you might not know Soulmate, I would strongly suggest you to give them a listen. Easily India's best blues band. This is an attempt to cover the absolutely brilliant solo from the first track "Sunshine" off their latest album "Ten Stories Up". Enjoy! - Dipen Gear Used : Guitar : Ibanez SA 220 FM (Hardtailed) Amp : Marshall MG 30 DFX (plus footswitch) Strings : D'Addario 11's (old :P)
