UGG Chronicles Ep. 134 | Periphery - Alpha Guitar Cover I came across Periphery ~2015, and it blew my mind. It took a while to get used to this genre, but ohmygod I love it. Last month I got the chance to see them live, and it was pretty amazing! As for this song, it was my entryway into this genre and I remember listening to the juggernaut albums in their entirety in one sitting back then. It was a time of change, and this is apt as it’s a time for change now as well. This was recorded ~Dec ’23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 132 | SOJA - Waking Up, Wah Solo Cover I have been grooving to this song since 2015, when my undergrad just started, and here I am, more than 8 years later finally getting along to jamming with it! This was just a quick, ear-figure-out thing, but really, it’s all about grooving with the wah in this one! This was recorded ~Dec ’23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 131 | Periphery - It’s Only Smiles verse cover (~2019) So I wanted to come back to this after seeing Periphery live a little while ago. I remember I’d just got the POD back then and was working my way around it (and damn that patch sounds good even now). I can’t tell you how many times I come back to this song.. there’s just that something to it. One of these years ima get a 7 string and learn the whole thing properly. This was recorded ~May 2019

UGG Chronicles Ep. 130 | The Rolling Stones - Beast of Burden Guitar Jam Along So, after what seems like an eternity, I finally sat down and worked on a pedalboard for the tele. Just using the pod in front of the bassbreaker and it sounds so good in person! (Hopefully the camera mic does it justice), but it was so fun to play along with this track! In terms of the Christmas hat, why not lol. This was recorded ~Nov ’23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 129 | Blues Jam Solo So, for the past few months, I have been going to open mic/blues jams hosted by the Blues Society of Central PA. It really gave me confidence to improv on stage (and build confidence playing ofc). This clip is from 13th Oct, and has to be one of my best solos that came out in a while! UGG Chronicles Ep. 128 | Taylor Swift - Style, Bass Cover Okay, so this is one of those pop songs that are really fun (and easy) to play on the bass. I jam out to Taylor Swift time and again, and sometimes the fun sing-along songs are what you need after an eventful day! (Oh yeah, and I am growing out me beard. Not entirely sure why, but I’ma see how long I can keep it for) This was recorded ~Nov ’23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 127 | Anuv Jain - Baarishein Acoustic Cover Okay, so I admit I got to know about this cause it came up on my insta, and this was released smash dab in the middle of my engineering. (I was way too caught up with TLT to even notice other artists tho lol). But I’m glad I found this. Musically, it’s pretty simple (downright boring, I thought the first time I heard it), but it’s grown on me, and I just wanted the lyrics to shine here. And on a playing side note, playing simple stuff can really be quite humbling. You really have to concentrate at times, and you get to know where you lack musically, or in technique. UGG Chronicles Ep. 126 | Plain White T’s - Hey There Delilah Acoustic Cover This song immediately transports me to 7th/8th standard when a friend introduced me to this song. It seems like forever ago, and the simplicity of those times just seems unreal now.. but I know a 12/13 year old would be chuffed to know the gear I have now! You know, we might —in part, and without even realizing it— be living the life we dreamt of all those years ago.. It’s important to take a moment to reflect and be grateful for it. UGG Chronicles Ep. 125 | John Mayer - Free Falling Acoustic Cover This is one of my comfort songs I come back to time and again.. and this is such a nice take on the original song! One of the easier Mayer songs to go about… was able to get this in an evening (which is apparent from the mistakes in the video haha), but nonetheless it was fun to play. This was recorded ~Oct ’23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 124 | The Local Train - Khudi, Guitar Cover As I may have mentioned before, TLT was the soundtrack of my undergrad years. We played this particular song for our senior’s farewell, and it was really awesome.. I remember people getting up from their chairs, coming near the stage and jumping along! It’s a shame that the band broke up, but it was amazing while it lasted! This was recorded ~Oct ’23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 123 | Slash - Ain’t Life Grand Guitar Cover Okay, so this one was a long time coming. I have been listening to it for so long and it’s always such a mood. The line “ain’t nothing wrong, ain’t a damn thing right” just hits home every single time. Also, from a gear perspective, I got me a Fender Bassbreaker 15 (which, side note, I’d wanted to get since 2015, and I’m super grateful to be in a position that I am able to fulfil these dreams). I’m still figuring out how to get the best out of it, esp with the POD.. that’s going to be a journey! This was recorded ~Oct ’23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 122 | Cold Sunday Improv Okay, so I just recently got into tube amps, and omg, I was missing out on a whole lot of tone. I got a great deal on a used Fender Bassbreaker, and it sounds phenomenal. I am still figuring out how to make the POD work with this, but I am so happy with the sound and the tone of this thing.. I just hope some of it comes across in the video. This was recorded ~Oct ’23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 121 | John Mayer - Shouldn’t Matter but it Does, Acoustic Cover This is a cover that I did (what feels like a lifetime ago) in Mar ’22. Had uploaded this to YouTube at the time (thanks a ton Rishi for helping out!), and I thought of covering it again for a fleeting moment, but just decided to go back to this recording. Had always been drawn to this song from Sob Rock, and lately been feeling it again.. songs can take on a deeply personal meaning (which might not have been the intention of the writer), but that’s what makes it it all the more special imo. This definitely is in the same vein (which is just getting clearer as I type this, listening to it over and over again). This was recorded ~Mar ’22

UGG Chronicles Ep. 120 | Green Day - Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Acoustic Cover This song transports me back to 2009, where a friend had introduced me to this in 7th standard. I even recall buying the CD for this album (and absolutely loving it). The 12-year old back then would not have believed how things turned out now.. and I’m super grateful for it. UGG Chronicles Ep. 119 | Fantastic Negrito - Plastic Hamburgers Guitar Improv Believe it or not, I’d been wanting to cover this since 2019.. been jamming to it since then for sure, but after a few long weeks here, I just wanted some old comfort (along with some new improv) This was recorded ~Sept ’23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 118 | Kesha - Tik Tok | Slap Bass Cover Life was so much simpler when TikTok just referred to this song. Honestly, back then I could not (for the life of me) forsee myself covering stuff like this, but like I have said before, playing pop on bass is fun! This was heavily inspired by a slap video I saw on YouTube (too tired to link it now, but it was amazing).. my slap chops clearly need more work, but it was still fun to cover! UGG Chronicles Ep. 117 | Guns N’ Roses - It’s So Easy Guitar Cover So, a few weeks ago I got to see GN’R live, which was legit a childhood dream come true! Plus it kinda came full-circle as I saw GN’R (without Slash) in 2012, then Slash in 2015, and now the whole band! If I remember correctly, they opened their set with this song, and it’s kinda been stuck in my head since then. This is just a version which I could put together between work and such (hence the formal clothes haha), cause it’s one of those things which I know I would not be able to put off till later. This was recorded ~Sept ’23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 116 | Slash - Gotten, Guitar Solo Cover (2016) (Yes, this is taken from my YouTube channel, I wanted to archive it here as well) I remember recording this just after getting the goldtop. “Gotten” is one of my favourites, and I remember listening to the whole ‘Slash’ album over and over again when it came out ~2010. (Honestly can’t believe it’s been more than 13 years since then) It’s always fun looking back at your old stuff, and more often than not, even though so much has changed, it doesn’t really feel that different. I might end up putting a few YouTube videos to UGG as well, the landscape’s certainly changed. This was recorded ~2016

UGG Chronicles Ep. 115 | Maroon 5 - Payphone Bass Cover It’s fun jamming to pop stuff on the bass. Dunno how long this song has been on the list, but I finally got around to doing it. Proud to say that I got this by ear (yeah, it’s simple ik, but it’s a nice change to just looking up the tabs and rushing to play it) This was recorded ~Aug ‘23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 114 | Taylor Swift - Sweet Nothing | Kalimba Cover A throwback to this Jan.. perhaps the busiest time for me in retrospect, but I’d recently got the Kalimba and this seemed doable. I guess this is one of those videos where I was stiff and awkard while recording back then, and now I can play the thing much better. Huh, guess that’s what UGG is about (it’s a good archive in any case) This was recorded ~Jan ‘23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 113 | Post Malone - Circles | Bass Cover This is a fun poppy song to play.. not really my usual type of music, but guess that’s what UGG is about. Was a fun jam tho! This was recorded ~Aug ‘23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 112 | “Khaabon Ke Parindey” | Acoustic Cover There are a few songs that just work so well in the genre.. this is one of them. (Btw, this movie has an amazing song-list now that I think of it). This is a nice jazzy number that took a lot of effort and help to get to this stage, but yeah, I absolutely love it. This was recorded ~Aug ‘23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 111 | Slipknot - Snuff | Acoustic Cover So, there is just something so.. raw about this song. Drastically different from other Slipknot stuff, and easily one of my favourites. Just wanted to jam over this.. this one has no extra improv or anything.. the lyrics are the hero here. This was recorded ~Aug ‘23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 110 | “Aaoge Tum Kabhi” | Guitar Solo Cover Yet another big throwback to the college days, and this is one of those solos that we could just hum anytime. I wanted to do this after reaching a milestone, and now seemed as good a time as any. This was recorded ~Aug ‘23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 109 | “Shrewsbury” | Guitar Practice This is a throwback to the bangalore days, which in itself was a throwback to my school days and jamming with “The Side Project”, which was a fun time. The full song is there on SoundCloud! This was recorded ~Apr ‘21

UGG Chronicles Ep. 108 | The Local Train - Choo Lo | End Solo Cover So, after almost two years, I was finally able to get this PRS! (and the fact that it’s been discontinued just makes it more rare?) but it’s a wonderful guitar and I absolutely love it. This is just something quick I recorded cause it’s as shiny as it’ll ever be, and plus I had wanted to cover this for a while now! This was recorded ~Jul ‘23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 107 | “Kidre Jaawan” Acoustic Cover/Improv This just turned out to be a “figure-out-by-ear” kinda song. It’s mostly in DMaj, but still fun to play over. I like the overall vibe of this. Tuns out I really like Jasleen Royal’s stuff.. been covering a lot of it! This was recorded ~Jul ‘23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 106 | “Hey”, Ethereal Style Riff Idea So, this is a throwback to the quarantine days where I was just getting into the whole Mayer/Hendrix/SRV style of playing, and came up with this idea. Wish I had more time to work on it, but there’s def something in there. This was recorded ~Oct ‘20

UGG Chronicles Ep. 105 | Guns N’ Roses - It’s Alright Piano Practice This one is a clip from my piano practice sessions. It was something that I’d started off wanting to learn ~2018, and then eventually did do it after coming to uni. This was the pathway of exploring more piano stuff, and hopefully that continues! UGG Chronicles Ep. 104 | “Din Shagna Da” Guitar Cover So, I just happened to stumble upon this song, and it turned out to be a good piece to just jam out and improvise. Would be fun to cover with someone else definitely. I’m trying to be more conscious in improvising, but it’s easy to get carried away lol This was recorded ~July ‘23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 103 | Linkin Park - Shadow of the day Bass Cover This one is a throwback to the HRC gig. We ended our set with an extended version of this song, and it was amazing! The bass part is fairly straightforward, and this is one of those songs that you need a pick for! This was recorded ~Feb ‘23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 102 | “London Thumakda” So, this is one of those all-time-feel-good songs. I remember dancing to this as part of a flashmob in my undergrad, and even seeing the artist perform it live! Also, this is one of those songs that I just got in the mood to record at-the-fly and there are many hiccups there, but I had a fun time with it! This was recorded ~July ‘23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 101 | The Local Train - Choo Lo Solo 1 (Acoustic) I have been waiting to cover this song properly, but that’s coming soon (with a surprise). And as always, TLT transports me back to my undergrad days. It’s so unfortunate that the band broke up, was fun while it lasted for sure. This was recorded ~June ‘23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 100 | Quarter Life B’day Blues Can’t believe we are at 100 episodes of UGG! I am glad that I have been able to be fairly consistent with this these years. This particular clip is from the night of my 25th birthday party. I didn’t think much about turning 25, but with everything that has happened, it indeed has been a major milestone. Things are biblically different than what I had imagined it’d be when I was 13, but I am glad for the experiences along the way. For the actual improv, this was a jazz lick that I just keep going back to time and again. And please don’t ask me what I was doing with my hair.. even I can’t answer that question xD This was recorded ~Oct ‘22

UGG Chronicles Ep. 99 | “Young Dumb and Broke” Bass Cover This is a prime example of a song where the tone makes ALL the difference. It’s only three notes, but it was really fun to play! Also, I got a chance to see Khalid at the Ed Sheeran concert, and it was amazing! This was recorded ~June ‘23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 98 | “Take Me Down Easy” Guitar Cover So, this is another song from Bojack, which I had covered back in Bangalore. There is something.. soothing about this song.. the strumming, the rhythm, and the whole vibe generally. This was recorded ~May ‘21

UGG Chronicles Ep. 97 | “Cant Stop This Feeling” Bass Cover So, this is another throwback to last year when I had just got the bass and was getting familiar with it. Fun song to play for sure. This was recorded ~Aug ‘22

UGG Chronicles Ep. 96 | BFMV - Hearts Burst Into Fire Guitar Cover I have mentioned before that I have a special place for metal in my heart. Surprisingly this tele can handle this just alright. This was one of those songs that I had started off learning, and it just ‘dissolved’ when I wasn’t getting it properly. This by no means is a perfect take, but yeah, that makes it all the more human for me. Also, this song is quite special and it reminds me of circa 2012 (and omg that was a different era), of things and relationships back then. This was recorded ~June ‘23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 95 | Adele - Easy on me Piano Practice This is back from last year when I was in full-swing of teaching myself songs on the piano. This was a nice upright piano that unfortunately isn’t so good now. Tbh, I wanted to learn how to play this after listening to this song in the cafeteria and being like “yeah, think I should try this one”. This was recorded ~Sept ‘22

UGG Chronicles Ep. 94 | Green Day - Warning Bass Cover This is almost a year back when I’d just got the bass! It was quite an impulse purchase, but omg I’m glad that I did it. I really thought that bass was just a college affair, but turns out that it’s much more than that. This particular song was among the first basslines I learnt and it’s quite fun to play! UGG Chronicles Ep. 93 | ”Canon in D” Main Riff Cover So, this is one of those songs that was almost always there in my list. Tbh, the push for this came in when I heard someone else play this on a public piano, and it sounded otherworldly. Yep, learning this on a piano is much harder than a stringed instrument! UGG Chronicles Ep. 92 | ”Kabira” Bass Cover Idk, there is a certain comfort I find in these songs, apart from grooving on the root notes here (which is a very good way to get into playing bass and improving your timing/“groove”), it reminds me of my undergrad days and playing with Octavium. UGG Chronicles Ep. 91 | Juice - Workin’ on Lovin’ Rhythm Guitar Cover This one is almost 2 years old now, from the pre dino-bed era. (good to look back at now really) Juice is a band that I am so grateful I stumbled upon. I love their earlier work, and it sometimes reminds me of Bangalore. There is an amazing unplugged version of this song on youtube which I routinely keep going back to (the violin guy there is super talented) This was recorded ~Sept ‘21

UGG Chronicles Ep. 89 | “A Thousand Years” Fingerstyle Practice There’s always something magical about playing fingerstyle renditions of song. I remember listening to Sungha Jung’s stuff and being inspired by it. Hopefully more of this will come in the future. This was recorded ~Dec ‘22

UGG Chronicles Ep. 86 | Green Day - Basket Case Guitar Improv After spending more than a decade listening to this, I finally gave this a shot. Have to say, it was much more fun in-person. The solo was a last-minute addition (and I liked it so much that I ended up just starting this video from it). What I found really peculiar about this song is it’s structure. It’s exactly the same as Canon in D! This was recorded ~Apr ‘23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 85 | “Sunsetz” Bass Cover Okay, so this is another one of super simple, yet satisfying bass covers. Love this band! This was recorded ~Nov ‘22

UGG Chronicles Ep. 84 | “Afreen Afreen” Verse Practise/Cover Perhaps this is one of the last videos I have left of last summer with the headband, that was quite a mood. I had learnt this song to play at a fest (didn’t end up doing that, but recoded and uploaded on YouTube instead). Had been feeling quite desi as of late, so this kinda seemed apt. This was recorded ~Jul ‘22

UGG Chronicles Ep. 83 | Led Zeppelin - Going to California Verse Cover This is a song that has been pivotal for me, being present in all the same situations. This particular last verse is what sticks out the most for me. Also, as a bonus, this has by far the longest my hair has ever been. This was recorded ~Oct ‘22

UGG Chronicles Ep. 82 | GELE Improv So, this is a clip from “Global Engagement and Leadership Experience”, which was a weekend ‘retreat’ I went on last year.. there was an international talent showcase, where I played this (using someone else’s guitar). This is a piece whose main idea was composed by a senior of mine in school, Vivek. I have been noodling around with that idea for a long time. D Major really is the saddest major scale. The crowd was really awesome here. I honestly did not think it would turn out this way! This was recorded ~Apr ‘22

UGG Chronicles Ep. 81 | Linkin Park - Leave Out All The Rest Bass Cover I remember playing this song at HRC back in 2018. Stumbled upon this song while trying to get some work done, but just had to cover this.. reminds me of school days. This was recorded ~Mar ‘23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 80 | Ethereal/Ambient Idea This was heavily inspired by Ariel Posen. Stumbled upon his stuff ~2021, and loved the vibe. This is one of those instances where having a good rig reeeealy helps. And on a side note, I was just thinking how times have changed in terms of me recording music stuff and sharing them on the internet. A decade (and even more really) ago, when I was putting stuff up on YouTube, I could only think of being able to do it on a weekly basis (it was maybe 5-6 videos a year), with this kind of engagement and reach. If the 13-year old me were to get to know about this (and the gear), he’d be mighty pleased. Guess we all need to just sometimes take a moment to turn back, take in and be grateful in how far we’ve come. This was recorded ~Mar ‘23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 79 | Acoustic Slappy Blues Just an idea I was noodling around with. Contrary to what you might think, slapping on a guitar feels much more different than doing it on a bass. Both are fun tho! This was recorded ~Jan ‘23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 78 | “Mr. Blue” from Bojack Horseman | Guitar Cover This is one of those songs that I keep coming back to, and that just hit hard. I had recorded this before coming to the states, and was in my “upping-slide-game” phase. It’s funny that even if things seem to be spiraling now, you will most likely look back at this time with a feeling of comfort. That’s kinda how I feel revisiting several of my old videos. UGG Chronicles Ep. 77 | Prateek Kuhad - Kasoor | Guitar Cover So, as I have mentioned before, I genuinely believe that some songs have the capacity to make you feel the things that you first felt when you heard that song for the very first time. This is quite that song for me.. I am glad to be able to view it from a lens of contentment, and being able to attach newer memories on top of it. This was recorded ~Mar ‘23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 76 | “Apocalypse” Bass Cover Simplicity is fun more times than I thought it would be. This “dreampop” genre is a really good way to get into playing the bass and getting the basics right! Love this band tho.. the vibe is amazing. This was recorded ~Nov ‘22

UGG Chronicles Ep. 74 | Tracy Chapman - Fast Car Guitar Cover “Comfort” stuff is special, and I believe that it is one of those things that genuinely help you feel good after times of distress. This song, (esp how it makes me feel) is def one of these. This was recorded ~Sept ‘22

UGG Chronicles Ep. 73 | Bo Burnham - That Funny Feeling Guitar Cover There is just something so catastrophically and hauntingly beautiful about this song (and by extension, the whole “Inside” special), that I just keep coming back to it. This particular take was just me messing about with the Mayer playing pattern on chords used here. This was recorded ~Dec ‘22

UGG Chronicles Ep. 72 | ”Ranjha” Bass Cover I believe music has the ability to (metaphorically) transport you to the time when you first heard that song and make you feel how you felt then. This particular one definitely does that. This was recorded ~Feb ‘23

UGG Chronicles Ep. 71 | ”Lazarus” Main Piano Riff Cover So, over the course of last year, I taught myself how to play the piano (by learning some GN’R ofc). It’s one of those things that I’d wanted to do for quite a while, but the timing just felt.. off. Thankfully the timing felt right the last year, and duh, a good upright piano helps a TON! This song in particular reminds me of 2009, my school times. Quite nostalgic indeed! This was recorded ~Aug ‘22

I remember seeing a similar cover of canon on this sometime ago, and I wanted to do it since then. It’s very stiff, I know, but this was literally recorded on the day I got this. I remember our band Octavium playing this at an event, and it was awesome, with the crowd coming up in front and jumping along! Added some slap in here as well, felt nice. This was recorded ~Feb ‘23

Did this one at the suggestion of a friend. I guess I can see the “appeal factor” for stuff like this, but yeah, not quite into it. This was recorded ~Nov ‘22

It was magical then, and I can’t believe that it took me such a long time to get around to covering it, albeit in pieces. This was learnt by ear, which I am quite proud of. This was me in my first semester here, and has been living in the states for not even a month at that point, and was practising this for the upcoming diwali event. UGG Chronicles Ep. 60 | KALEO - Broken Bones Guitar Cover Okay, so wild hair time, but this was recorded just as the summer was ending (and I was at the peak of my hair-growing phase), and I got around to listening to this song cause my roommate used to play this. UGG Chronicles Ep. 59 | “Evergreen Cassette” from “This Is Us” Slide is something that I want to work on, and have seldom gotten around to doing. As for this song, I stumbled upon this in a playlist (funnily enough, not even from ‘This Is Us’), and I was just drawn to it. This came in at a time when I resonated with the underlying melancholy. Metal holds a special place in my heart, and Slipknot is just something else. The Tele handled it better than I’d expected really.
